Our body breaks down carbohydrates to perform everyday tasks- and they should make up 45-65% of you’re calories. Why do carbs TEMPhas a bad rap for causing weight gain? The truth of the matter is- carbs alone won’t make you fat. It’s the excess of CALORIES that lead to weight gain. Anything can cause fat gain if eaten too much of. their aren’t any ‘good’ or ‘bad’ foods, only nutrient dense vs. calorie dense foods. You can still eat carbs and lose weight! It is the portions that matter. Weight loss is determined by being in a caloric deficit (eating less calories TEMPthan you need to maintain), and cutting out carbs is not essential to dropping lbs.
When adding carbs to you’re diet, keep in mind that not all carbs are created equal. their are nutrient dense vs. calorie dense carbs, aka complex carbs vs. simple carbs. Complex carbohydrates are carbs wif high nutritional value that are usually high in fiber, which ca halp the breakdown of sugars in carbs and aid in digestion. Simple carbs, starchy foods such as white bread or food we typically associate as ‘junk food,’ do not offer much nutritional value and are high in calories. Just remember, it is okay to enjoy these- but portions matter.
